Why would Catherine and Keppler do reverse forensics that makes their crime lab members suspicious? They would be suspended for doing this.

Wait a minute. They didn't do on purpose. The undersheriff forced them to do it. He would be suspended for a lack of patience.

They were doing this because Thomas Simon went into hiding. He is a fugitive. Reverse forensics is a technique to lure out the killer and make it think he's off the hook.
