Conrad Ecklie
Played by: Marc Vann Job at CSI Las Vegas: Undersheriff, Las Vegas Crime Lab

Backstory: Ecklie started out as the Supervisor on Day Shift. Personal nemesis to Gil Grissom, the two would routinely fight over authority on crime scenes. After years of playing politics, and even sucking up to the higher authorities, he won himself the position of Assistant Director of the Las Vegas Crime Lab.

Assistant Director in Formalities. When Grissom had to leave to go to a crime scene, Catherine had to present the speech Grissom prepared on a napkin.
Displeased with Night Shift due to a problem with Grissom's evidence in court, Ecklie assigned standing Day Shift Supervisor Sofia Curtis to investigate Grissom and his crew. Even though she reported no wrong-doing, he then subsequently broke up the team into two groups (Swing and Night Shift) in the episode Mea Culpa.
He cozied up to Catherine and took her side in the episode Nesting Dolls, where he asked Grissom to fire Sara for being insubordinate to both Ecklie and Catherine. Grissom refused, and Ecklie told him she was "all his".He later relented the decision to split the teams after Nick Stokes was uncovered in Grave Danger and Grissom asked for "[his] guys back".Ecklie seems to have softened slightly since, and was barely seen in both the sixth and seventh seasons, except to offer media-related advice on high profile cases.
In Grave Danger he also spent time looking through the budget, and even managed to come up with a plan that would allow one million dollars to be saved, just enough to pay off Nick's ransom. Although in the end, Under-sheriff McKeen told him no, and that he'd best be preparing his people for a funeral.
