Lets give the dog a story line.

Sara and Gill are out, on their days off, visiting a park where low and behold a dog rescue organization is having an adoption day. Sara and Gill start looking at the dogs and come across a sad eye droppy lipped Boxer. The adoption facilitators tell them his somewhat sad story of neglect and abandonment, Gill tell Sara how he always wanted a Boxer but his mother perferred smaller dogs, small dog small poop (thats my mothers logic) Sara talks him into adopting him, using all the kids logic, I'll help, I'll walk him, and I'll clean up after him type comments. So, Gill signs up to take the dog, as the paper work is being filled out the adoption facilitator tells them about some cute things the dog has done including the fact that he like to have two girlfriends going at the same time and how its gotten him into trouble. Sara chimes in "oh, thats sound just like Hank" at the moment the dog barks, Sara says Hank again another bark, Gill says Hank another bark the facilitator says the dog was never named but sure seems to like the name Hank. So they name him Hank.

I was raised with the notion that people have people name and dogs have dog names like Trig, Rover, Binks, Bucky,etc. But name the boxer Hank is kind of a cute dig at that dog Hank the paremedic.
