Episode Summary | Henry leaves the office and thanks Catherine for some time off. At his car he's attacked by three men in masks and is taken away. They threaten him with a knife and then take off their masks - it's Greg, Hodges and Nick! They are taking him to Harry's Hog Hideout - the best barbecue in Nevada. It's a far drive and they swerve to avoid another car. The car flips but no one is injured. They hoof it to the restaurant which is only a mile from the crash. They arrive and the restaurant is closed due to health reasons. They look around to try to find a phone (there's no cell reception) and discover a dead body - with a raccoon stuck in his face! Something sent both the body and the raccoon through the window at high velocity. It looks like the top half of the body has been singed.
There's a 911 call for a woman in distress and we are shown a young woman being pushed into water. The police are responding and find the same woman face down in a bathtub with her lower half out of the tub. They hear screams and find a man, Bernie Higgens, hooked up to a CPAP machine (night time breathing device). Brass wakes him up. Catherine and Ray inspect the body. There are markings on her neck consistent with being held under. There's a broken hypodermic needle in her arm - she may have been drugged. Brass questions the man and he says he slept through the whole thing with his machine over his face. He has Crohn's disease and is in physical pain. He says the woman was a girlfriend of sorts and they were going to go to dinner in an hour. They take him into the station. Ray tells Brass that being hooked to a CPAP is a reasonable alibi...it's a very noisy machine. They note that Mr. Higgens is a fan of true crime (he's got a lot set on his DVR).
Greg and Hodges discover a canister with accelerent and burnt matches outside. The canister has trash at the bottom of the barrel...Greg thinks it might be raccoon bait. Nick finds the phone dead, and Henry gets a gun pulled on him by the dead man's friend. Nick is able to talk him down and Hodges and Greg come in. Greg tells the friend that the man baited the canister to attract a raccoon and then lit it on fire. The man's friend, Slick, said that the dead guy (Gomez) and the raccoon were locked in a battle. The man is the handyman but someone dropped him off....he has no car. Harry's wife, Shirley, arrives and is obviously drunk. She walks inside to look at the body. It turns out Harry left six months ago and Gomez was the cook. The guys realize that Shirley was the woman who ran them off the road earlier, but don't say anything. Slick says there is a ham radio in the back.
Wendy tells Ray and Catherine that the needle in the victim contained ketamine, but there was no ketamine in the victim's system. The needle is also a different gauge than the other needles in the house. Brass questions Bernie and as they are talking, he falls asleep. After Brass wakes him up he says that he is a narcoleptic. Lily, the victim, was an international flight attendant. Bernie falls asleep another time and apparently dies.
Nick goes to try to find the ham radio and Slick warns him not to go into a specific room. He does and finds another body. He has Slick at gunpoint while he inspects the body...and it's rubber! Shirley talks to the rest of the guys about what a good restaurant Harry's used to be. Greg excuses himself and goes to try to find a phone. Henry is left alone with Shirley when Hodges needs to use the little boys room. Hodges snoops around and finds a room with a still. Nick tries to use the ham radio but it shorts out. Greg is snooping and tries to use the dead phone again. He finds some wire and begins to tinker. Shirley pours Henry a "man's drink" and she complains about Harry leaving...she shows him a postcard Harry sent her that he sent after he left. He left her for a younger woman and left for Boca Raton. Shirley tries to seduce Henry.
Ray and the Doc start the autopsy of Bernie Higgens. Catherine calls and she finds a shoe imprint that isn't consistent with Bernie at the home. The Doc shows Ray that there are two appendixes (appendicii?) in Bernie. One is septic and has been sutured to the intestines. They realize they are dealing with Dr. Jekyll and confirm it when they note a laparoscopic surgery scar on the victim's belly button.
The sun is coming up at Harry's. Greg has figured out a way to make a phone that can be directly tapped into the phone jack. He's able to patch in and gets a hold of Catherine. Henry goes behind the bar to wash up and breaks a bottle of sulfuric acid over his hand. Nick is able to neutralize it with some charcoal and while he is picking it up, he finds a skull. He questions Shirley and Slick and the police arrive.
Back at the lab, Ray notes that the appendix was added four to seven days ago. The needle fragment in Lily was most likely the laparoscopic armature. Dr. Jekyll is escalating to living victims. Catherine and Ray try to figure out the connection between the first victim and Bernie, but there is none. Bernie was so full of meds that the appendix didn't kill him as soon as he expected. They theorize that Jekyll saw Bernie up and around and went to his house to finish the job. He surprised Lily and had to kill her. Catherine and Ray decide to go back to the house to find a connection between Bernie and Jekyll.
Nick, Greg and Dave autopsy Gomez and the bones, which turn out to be Harry's. Harry is missing all of his ribs....they realize that the health code violation was a month after Harry disappeared. They served Harry to the customers, leading to the health code problem....Harry had hepatitis. Shirley and Slick blame one another for Harry's death. They both had motive, but there's no evidence to prove either one did it. Henry finds out that Gomez sent the postcard that was "from Harry" to his mother in Boca Raton, who mailed it back. Henry used the fingerprints on the postcard to link the postcard to Gomez's mother. They theorize that Gomez got tired of Harry taking the credit, and just snapped one day.
Catherine and Ray are the house and the Doc is trying to figure out who's appendix it was that Jekyll attached to Bernie's intestine. Ray looks through books and gets the inspiration to look through the appendices. He finds a book where a word has been cut out. Simultaneously, the Doc finds a hypodermic needle inside of the appendix. Inside of the appendix is a small piece of paper that reads "Michaelangelo."

I really enjoyed this ep and just when I thought it was over, it kept going. Poor Henry. He really didn't have a very good birthday. And yes! The joking Greg is back! (At least for now) The look on both Hodges and Greg's face when they walked in on the guy holding up the shotgun to Henry. Too funny! This was a really good one and I haven't seen one of those in a while...
