Episode Summary | A girl (who looks to be the same age as the victims in the CSI:Miami and CSI:NY cases) is running through a casino stairwell, and then escapes out the front door. A security man sees her outside of the casino and she is attacked by someone in the bushes. Brass shows up and then calls Ray...he's late showing up. He's on the strip looking for Madeline Briggs, a teen who he has been tracking since Miami. He promised her mother in Miami that he'd find her and bring her home. Nick shows up and was worried about Ray since he was non-responsive to the phone call. Apparently, there is a photo of Madeline that was taken at a casino nearby. She's in the area hooking. Nick promises to come back and help Ray look for Madeline. The victim is a hooker based on the items in her purse. Her neck was slashed with a straight razor. There is a mysterious lack of bloody footprints. Dave arrives and identifies her as DeDe Chase, the meteorologist from the news in Barstow.
Catherine meets Greg and Dave in autopsy. DeDe has several bruises on her face and legs. She has a new tattoo received within the last 48 hours and the SAE kit shows she's had rough intercourse. Greg finds blood on the earring opposite from the side she was cut on. It might be the killer's blood. Ray and Nick analyze the surveillance tapes and see that she went up the elevator with a gentleman in the south tower, and then later ran down the north side of the building to her death. Nick theorizes that picking up the elevator guy was just a cover to get away from someone that was already downstairs. DeDe received dozens of phone calls from a man from Barstow named Brett McDowell, who happens to be in town. Brass plays Brett's threatening messages to him and Brett reveals that DeDe and he were having an affair. He saw her three nights ago on the street where she got out of the car and he drove away. He went home to Barstow and then came back to get her. Brass gets a DNA sample and a list of where they went together. Brett tells him that DeDe hated tattoos and would never get one.
Catherine analyzes the tattoo design to try to get a match. It's associated with known prostitutes. Wendy analyzes the DNA on the earring and it turns out to be Madeline Brigg's. The team goes over the facts....DeDe was probably forced into prostitution and shared a room with Madeline who had been transported from Miami to New York and then to Vegas to be a hooker. There's a pimp competition in town and the team visits to try to find some leads. They talk to a few girls with the hearts and diamond tattoos, but they get nothing until Nick has a plan. Brass and he arrest a dancer (Diane) based on the cocaine on the dollar bill she is holding.
Ray returns to the office and Mrs. Briggs is there waiting for him. She is upset that he didn't tell her that Madeline was in the area. She sees the picture and cries. Brass traces a call that Diane made to her pimp. He hangs up on her, but then an older black woman makes bail for her. Brass follows the car and takes photos. The woman who posted bail has been involved in prostitution and drug trade for years. She has a mid-20s son who has no record...but hasn't worked either. They theorize that mom retired and gave her son the business. They see that Anthony, the son, has an earring similar to Madeline Briggs'. They use that to get a warrant and go into the home. There are a half dozen women there and they find Diane beat up in a closet. Ray tries to get information on Madeline but none of the women talk - they are too scared.
Ray follows his instincts and goes into one of the bedrooms. He pulls back the bedspread on one of the beds and there is a pool of blood on the mattress. The team processes the house. Ray takes the mattress back to the lab for processing. Nick finds some fingerprints. Greg finds a hidden compartment in a fireplace with DeDe's wallet in it. Brass questions Anthony. He says that the other woman beat up Diane. He says Madeline was in town for a couple days and the left. Catherine and Nick question Diane they try to convince her to leave the game and testify against Anthony. She says that Anthony saved her from the Russian and they realize she may have worked for someone else. She says she was solo before - a renegade. They have to subdue her when Catherine wants to see her tattoo. After she passes out, they inspect the tattoo and realize it's larger than the other tattoos meaning that it's a cover up. They use a florescent light to see underneath the tattoo and find a butterfly. Nick says that the pimps may be launched in a "range war" like cattle ranchers. Madeline may have been taken by Diane's old pimp.
Wendy analyzes the blood on the mattress. She and Ray realize that Madeline had a miscarriage on the mattress (she was just a few months pregnant). They don't know if Madeline survived. Brass traces the butterfly tattoo down to Dimitri Sadesky, a local professor. Brass and Ray go to question him and process his car. They analyze the dirt around his tires and find that it is consistent with the dirt on a leg found in Miami with the butterfly tattoo on it. They bring him and the car in. Ray and Nick have to find something that connects Dimitri to DeDe or Madeline in the car in order to continue to keep Dimitri in custody. They discover a drop of blood.
Catherine analyzes the video surveillance and sees that Diane was at the casino the night DeDe was killed. There is evidence of blood in Diane's purse. She says she knew she should have dumped the purse, but it was the first thing that Anthony gave her when they first started dating. Anthony told her a lot of things about their future, but all that changed when they picked up DeDe. He wore her down by beating her up and then told DeDe that she'd be his top ho. DeDe pretended to like it, but Diane didn't trust her. She followed DeDe and when her trick came down 5 minutes later she knew there was a problem. DeDe was trying to escape and Diane killed her.
Nick and Ray are combing the irradiated sand lot where the car had been. The blood in the car was Madeline's. They discover four mummified female bodies. Dimitri is questioned and his lawyer tells Ray he's willing to cooperate. The bodies are too old to be Madeline, so Ray asks where she is. Dimitri says he accepted Madeline as a peace offering but then let her go in the street because Anthony had destroyed her commercial value.
Catherine, Greg, Wendy and Hodges open a package that Ray had sent from Miami and New York with kitchy souvenirs. Ray and Nick walk through the lab as Ray checks his texts. Mac and Horatio have both written to tell him that they've captured more portions of the human trafficking ring thanks to the names that Dimitri has offered, but Ray isn't satisfied. He wants to find Madeline. Ray begins sending a mass text messages to the "ho vine" - a network of prostitutes with cell phones. He tells Nick that it's worth a shot. He sends a message saying that Madeline's mother is looking for her and that she wants her back. He leaves his location.
Madeline shows up outside the lab and asks "How do I go back after all of this?" He tells her "You just have to walk through the door." She goes to him and he embraces her as she cries.
