Episode Guide - CSIEpisode Summary

The episode starts this time with seeing the killer (Paulie Krill) attack an unknown suspect. The next morning, Ray, Nick and Super Dave show up at the site and determine that the killing was done in rage because the killer didn't care about hiding the body. During the autopsy, they discover an implanted RFID tag in the wrist of the body which the killer tried to remove. Ray and Nick find a small piece of metal, tire treads and muddy shoe prints at the crime scene.

The scene flashes to Jason Devereaux, the victim, three weeks before his death. He is showing off the RFID tag to the staff of a casino service center (they make security cards and other necessary equipment for the Tangiers). He is able to open a security door by scanning his arm in front of a security door and opening it. He is openly flirting with his supervisor, Belinda Martin, to the annoyance of Paulie. The scene then flashes forward to present day at the same office. Terrence Lombard, another co-worker, is trying to open a security door with a card and asks where Jason is. Belinda and Paulie don't know, and then Paulie intervenes when Terrence
subtlety harasses Belinda by pretending to take something out of her hair. Belinda admires Paulie's newfound courage.

Back at the lab in present day, Hodges analyzes the metal from the crime scene. It's metal similar to what is used in a pipe bomb. Catherine is successful in scanning the RFID tag and Nick and Greg go to investigate. They find the victim's car, which Paulie roe from the scene. The backup cops are already there responding to a perceived break-in in Jason's apartment. They determine a family, friend or co-worker is the killer based on the fact the killer drove back to his home and took his electronics.

Brass goes to Paulie and Jason's office to question people. Nick and Ray come along and process the victim's desk. Paulie reveals he didn't like Jason because he didn't do his work and got people to do it for him. Archie is able to access the laptop remotely and take pictures of the person using the laptop. He is a neighbor of Jason's who decided to rob the place when he saw it open. Catherine reveals that Jason had a juvey record for selling his Ritalin. Greg discovers that Jason's laptop was full of tracking codes to check the computers of everyone in the office. Ray discovers there were traces of RDX, which is a powerful explosive, on the metal found at the scene.

There is another flash back to three weeks before the murder. Jason approaches Paulie and tells him he knows what he's been up to. Paulie has made plans to "go postal" and has written out scenarios on his computer. Jason tells Paulie that he can help him get get explosives. He tells him he knows what it's like to be on the outside and he wants to help Paulie.

The team starts going through the files of everyone who Jason was tracking. The scene flashes back to Jason and Paulie working their way into a secret area of the office building three weeks beforehand. Paulie shows Jason his exit strategy for leaving the building, a tunnel that exits a few feet beyond the security fence. Jason makes Paulie climb through it to prove that it works. Jason plays a joke on him and pretends that he is getting caught by the security guard. When Jason comes out, he shows off that he has security access to almost everything with his RFID tag. He shows off a monster faced USB key. In real time, Jason's mother comes to collect his things. Paulie pretends to help but is actually using the distraction to copy the USB key and print off a security card so he can get the access Jason had.

Hodges shows Ray an exploded metal fragment with blood that Highway patrol had found near the scene. It has a serial number and could have been the murder weapon. Wendy analyzes the DNA of a semen stain found in the victim's car. Back at the casino service center, Paulie tries to comfort Belinda. She asks him to get a drink with her. Just then, Brass comes in to take Belinda for questioning - the DNA was hers. As she is being escorted out, Paulie drops the USB key into her purse.

Brass questions Belinda and tells her that Jason was having sex with lots of women in the office. He suspects she was scorned and killed him. They discover evidence of them planning to leave for Cabo together. They also find the USB key with her access codes. They apparently reprogrammed Mr. Lombard's security card so it wouldn't work. Ray discovers the piece of metal was part of a safe, which they were blowing up in the forest. Tangiers doesn't want to reveal where they keep their money so the investigation is stalled. Ray and Nick track the type of safe and then trace it to Paulie, who was the last person who bought a specific type of safe.

There is a flashback to two nights ago with Jason and Paulie testing the safe in the woods. They fight when Paulie says he's out, even though it was his plan. Jason threatens Paulie if he tells anyone about the plan and calls him "empty space." Paulie becomes enraged and hits him with a piece of the broken safe. Flash forward to the present when Paulie is in the safe room waiting to hit the trigger. Just as he's about to hit the switch, Ray and Nick show up at the outside door and urge him not to do it. He does and has a fantasy of getting away with the money. It turns out he was actually hit with the door and cut in two. His last words are "I knew it would work."
